Employees that feel valued at work are more likely to be engaged, productive, and loyal to their employer. When employees receive recognition, there is a sense of belonging in the workplace and a chance for better employee communication. This is especially crucial in the case of remote work, because employees are more likely to believe that their efforts are going unnoticed.

However, there is a stipulation. Recognition must be done correctly in order to be successful, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

How to reward your employees?

In the past, you've worked hard to build your business. You may think that it's easy or even realistic to give your employees extra money when they do a good job. But that's not the case. Even though some well-established businesses can afford to give their employees raises and bonuses on a regular basis, small businesses can't always rely on this as a long-term way to reward their employees. The good news is that you can reward your employees without giving them more money. There are plenty of ways to do this.

1. Attention.

Take the time to pay attention to your best employees, even though you're busy with the everyday tasks of running a business. It's a good way to show them that they're important. Spending one-on-one time with them lets you see how important they are to your company and gives you a chance to show them how much you appreciate and praise them. Consider giving key employees one-on-one training and development sessions to show that you care about their job and how they make the business better.

 2. Certificates of achievement.

It’s a good idea to print certificates of achievement. There are many free certificate templates that you can use and change to fit the specific acts you want to honour. It's time to print out one of these certificates and give it to your best employee. Fill out the information with their name and show them. Do this in front of everyone at a company meeting or at a time when everyone is at work, or you could leave it on their desk if they are more used to quiet, subtle forms of recognition.

 3. Job titles.

Employees who have worked hard to achieve new goals can be rewarded with a new job title. Employees who take on more duties may wish to be honoured with a title change that reflects their advancement. Adding "Lead" or "Director" to new positions can enhance staff confidence and drive.

 4. Learning opportunities.

Offering classes or seminars that help employees learn about various aspects of the organization is another approach to promoting growth and expressing your value to employees. Perhaps your servers are interested in restaurant management. Giving them the opportunity to learn more makes them wiser and more thoughtful servers. You should look for local seminars that match the needs of your employees so you can talk about learning opportunities with them.

 5. Reward them through social media.

Remember, public acknowledgement isn't just for the office. Social media shoutouts are another way to recognize staff. Create a post on your company's Facebook or Instagram page praising the employee for being a wonderful team player. This allows your clients and other followers to connect with your brand on a deeper level. It also lets your employee's friends and family know about their accomplishments.

6. Time off.

Everyone needs a break now and then, and rewarding your employees for their efforts is the best way to do it. They'll love a day off, especially if it falls on one of their normal shift days.

8. Social events and parties.

There are few better ways to thank the individuals who keep your business going than by holding a party. Social events allow employees to get away from the daily grind and engage on a more personal level. When arranging a celebration, be inclusive, double-check the calendar to ensure your honorees can attend, and invite your employees to help arrange activities.

9. Handwritten notes.

Another small but meaningful thing you might want to do is send hand-written notes to the employees you want to thank. Some people don't like getting compliments in person, but getting a hand-written note from you can make a big difference to them and encourage them to keep going the extra mile and keep working together with their coworkers. Whenever you write a thank-you note, make it personal and explain why you're writing to the person. You won't get the same effect if you write a vague or general note.
